What the heck is a Quah pond you may ask? Well when you have
friends who pronounce Koi like Quah instead of coy, well it sort of sticks.
Anyway here it is from start to finish.
Boring. This area needed something. |
So first you dig the hole. |
Well actually you pay for someone else to dig the hole. This was the only part we did not do ourselves.
Then you spread sand so that it takes out any rough edges. |
The structure of the waterfall is built. |
Next you spread out the liner being careful not to have any wrinkles or big folds. |
Small river stones are put at the bottom as well as a few oxygenating plants and then the water starts to flow.
As the water fills up and adds weight it actually helps force the liner into the shape of the pond. |
The first layer of rocks on the shelf for the marginal plants. |
More water and then more rocks. |
The basic design is done. |
Rocks holding the outer edges of the liner in place while everything settles in.
Just about ready for Quah. |
Side view. And this is how we left it off at the end of last season.
The frogs moved in and jumoed in the boat with the fake frogs! |
Maybe he knows him? Liz named him Elvis. |
This year after adding plants and lights etc. |
Some of the Quah although they are a bit camera shy. |
Many of the larger ones were about 3 inches at the end of last season. They have grown quite a bit.
This was taken at night but the flash makes it look like day time so....
...here is a better night shot. |
And this one picks up the lights submersed in the pond. |
